The Digbeth venue is looking for Brum and Black Country bands to play live

Hennessey hosts weekly Saturday afternoon and evening gigs with a wide range of bands and singers over the year, with everything from cover bands to DJs.

Now they’re looking to add a summer Friday lineup for more musicians to showcase the region’s talent. Although most of the new gigs will take place in the main bar area, where they have started playing a number of gigs as part of their expanding music offering, they hope to use the huge garden too if the weather permits.

The summer will be busy with the finals of the European Football Championship, the 20/20 Cricket World Cup and the Paris Olympics all shown throughout the venue on the 34 screens and the massive garden screen, but it ensures that the music from the city comes and are actively seeking local musicians for gigs for their new Friday night slots.

Hennessey’s owner Gary McDonnell said: “Since we opened 26 years ago we have always supported Birmingham and its people, we employ local staff, we sell locally brewed beer, we are part of the region’s sports scene, we also love live music . and Birmingham and the West Midlands have consistently offered some of the best in the world. We want to expand our offering, especially during the summer when people are in town and we want to give great local artists the platform to showcase what they’re all about.”

He added: “We are always looking to move with the times and adapt to what our customers want. During the pandemic we were the first bar to continue the 50% off on food from Monday to Thursday to help customers out a bit and we have extended this to our Sunday roasts, it’s the little things that help customers and we will continue to we deliver the best we can with what our customers want at the forefront of everything we do.”

Hennessey’s has also unveiled its Saturday ‘Summer Fest’ line-up featuring an Irish weekend, a Reggae weekend and a Pop Classics weekend, with the final week being a mix of all three, catering for all musical tastes.

New Music Friday kicks off at Hennessey’s tomorrow (Friday), with Naomi Mellis covering all-time classics from 7pm. Entry is free and to make the most of the evening sun, food is served all day until 10pm, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of your summer weekends.

Bands and artists wishing to play at Hennessey’s should email [email protected] with the subject line ‘New Gigs’, this is the expected demand for slots at the newly launched gig.
