Wiltshire towns and villages will mark the 80th anniversary tonight by lighting a beacon to commemorate the Normandy landings.

There are about 14 locations that light a beacon at a quarter past nine tonight.

Collingbourne Kingston’s Barleycorn Inn, Fonthill Estate, Marlborough City Council, Devizes City Council and Latton Parish Council will be taking part.

80 years ago this morning, tens of thousands of Allied troops were landing on five beaches in Normandy in northern France. It was the largest seaborne invasion in military history and is seen as key to the Allied victory in World War II.
