Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester ‘all have to sell’ players in next 24 days

Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City must sell players before June 30 to avoid breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) rules, according to reports.

The league’s profit and financial sustainability rules currently allow clubs to lose a maximum of £105m over a three-year period or face sanctions, which include point deductions for serious offences.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both been banned this season for breaching the rules, and there are now six Premier League clubs under pressure to sell some players before June 30 to avoid breaching the rules.

Sky Sports revealed the six struggling clubs, with June becoming a “deadline day for clubs to get their finances in order”.

“Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester are all under pressure to lose one or two key assets, Sky Sports News understands, ahead of the change in the new financial year.

“Each club’s magic number remains a closely guarded secret, but the situations they find themselves in lead to a mini-transfer deadline day on June 30.

“The transfer window opens just 16 days before June 14 – the start of Euro 2024 – and while clubs want to avoid disruption to the tournament by negotiating deals for competing players, some disruption seems inevitable.

“June 30 has become that proxy cut-off day for clubs to get their finances in order because if they are found to have breached those spending regulations, they could face penalties including points deductions.”

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is a player the west Londoners are reportedly looking to sell TO balance the books and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano brought the latest news on the England international’s future.

Romano wrote in his Caught offside column: “Conor Gallagher’s situation has been completely quiet at the moment because he is still very focused on Chelsea. Conor is not desperate to leave Chelsea. He loves the club so would be more than happy to stay and fight for them, as he always, always looks.

“But at the same time there is interest from Aston Villa and there is interest from Tottenham. They already wanted Conor Gallagher a year ago and considered him a top target, but then Chelsea decided not to sell him last summer.

“Now the situation is really open again around Conor Gallagher because Villa’s interest is full. Chelsea’s position is clear. They want more than £50m for Conor because they see him as a really important player.

“That’s why we have to see if these clubs will really start discussions around this amount of money and make life difficult for other clubs, for example Atlético Madrid.

“They value the player but I can’t see Atlético Madrid paying a €60m fee for a midfielder unless something crazy happens in terms of exits or financial fair play.

“So that’s the current situation around the player, certainly one to watch in this summer transfer window.”
