Coventry shortstop Mitchy Ntelo has an asking price of €1.2m

Coventry City have signed Mitchy Ntelo this summer to bolster their forward line, according to reports Sacha Tavolieri.

Coventry City will be looking to finish in the top six of the Championship this season after a poor end to the 2023/24 campaign saw them miss out.

Mark Robins has built a very strong Sky Blues side, one that reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season, only losing on penalties to eventual winners Manchester United.

They have some good options in the forward areas, but it looks like they want to add more firepower.

Ntelo, 23, currently plays for Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria. He moved to Bulgaira in January from Belgian side R Charleroi SC.

During the 2023/24 season, he made 29 appearances in two countries and four competitions. He scored six goals and assisted four more.

Now Tavolieri says Coventry City are tracking the 23-year-old. However, FC Khimki of Russia submitted a bid of €700,000. This is well below Plovdiv’s asking price of over €1.2 million.

There is no time to rest

Coventry City have done very well in recent years. Their return to the Championship was complimented nicely, with the club competing in the top six the vast majority of the time.

Their success is a credit to the Robins’ superb management and solid recruitment.

Ntelo is somewhat of an unproven talent and the former Belgium U19 international has yet to prove he can do it on a stage as tough as the Championship, but his performances are attracting interest and there is certainly raw talent there.

Time to settle down

Coventry City have the likes of Ellis Simms, Haji Wright, Matt Gooden and even Fabio Tavares who are solid options up top.

That kind of depth means that if Ntelo were to be added to the ranks, the pressure on him to deliver instantly would be minimal and he should therefore be allowed to settle into English football and the demands that come with it.

The Robins have proven to be more than capable of protecting and developing young prospects and the blue shirt is one of the best to wear in the football league for up and coming youngsters.

Despite a poor finish to last season, things are still looking bright at Coventry City and they are contenders for a play-off place as things stand next season.
