Dr. Michael Mosley’s “passing out” theory appears as the deadline set for the search

Greek officials have set a deadline for the search for missing ITV doctor Michael Mosley. Mayor Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, of the Greek island of Symi, where Dr Mosley disappeared, suggested the This Morning star may have passed out due to the current heatwave in the region.

The 67-year-old went missing while hiking from St Nicholas Beach to nearby Pedi Beach. He left at around 1.30pm yesterday and his wife Dr Clare Bailey, 62, alerted police when he did not return by 7.30pm.

The mayor pointed out that Dr Mosley’s route would have been dangerous as temperatures soared to 35C yesterday. Had he not been carrying water, the risk of dehydration and fainting would have been significantly greater.

He also noted that the route is affected by “very high cliffs” and rocky terrain. The search operation will continue for another five days, after which efforts may have to be called off if they do not receive further support from Greece or the UK, he told LBC.

Earlier, the mayor noted that witnesses reported seeing the doctor chatting with locals in the town following his walk along the coast. Helicopters, drones, dogs and several emergency responders are currently scouring the area of the Dodecanese island where he was last seen.

Local police issued a statement, translated from Greek, saying they were notified on Wednesday of the “disappearance of the 67-year-old British citizen on the island”.

An “investigation” was launched into his location, with a search being carried out by the Fire Brigade with the help of forces from the Hellenic Police, Civil Protection (a local and regional coordination agency), volunteers and a police dog. Technical means such as drones are also used in the search.
