European club chairman says deal to sign Leeds United player almost done, almost 100%

The chairman of a European club has confirmed his side are close to completing the signing of a player from Leeds United this summer, with a deal close to “100 per cent”.

The 49ers will need to sell a few players this summer to bring in some much-needed funds amid reports that the club still owes £190m in transfer fees, although not all of it is due in the summer.

The sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra, as well as second-year parachute payments, will help pay for some of that, but realistically, some player sales are needed to help bring that figure down.

One of the ways Leeds can raise money is by selling Victor Orta’s loan army. Robin Koch and Sinisterra will be off the club’s books this summer, but the other six will be looking to move on.

Marc Roca is a player who has been loaned out using Orta’s relegation clause and has impressed. Now Real Betis chairman Angel Haro has given an update on re-signing the £10million man.

The president of Real Betis confirms the conclusion of the contract for the man from Leeds, Marc Roca

Reports say the 49ers are confident the club can sell Roca, Max Wober, Jack Harrison and Diego Llorente this summer, with the quartet impressing while on loan at Betis, Gladbach, Everton and Roma.

Roca is claimed to have agreed to join Betis for another season, while Leeds reportedly undercut Betis to sign him permanently. It is not clear how much Betis should pay for Roca.

Haro told Mucho Deporte that a deal is almost 100%, stating that the only difference is whether the club will sign Roca permanently or just on loan: “Roca remains almost 100%, loan or another formula.”

Roca and Harrison are the two players who can go on loan

Phil Hay recently reported that only two of the players who were allowed to leave Leeds on loan using Orta’s clause last summer can re-join on loan. Hay confirmed that one of those was Everton’s Harrison this summer.

Haro’s comments suggest that Roca is the other, which was always likely. It means Leeds will now have the option to sell or loan Rasmus Kristensen, Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson and Diego Llorente.

Given the criticism Orta has received and the public frustration of the loan clause of Orta’s Daniel Farke and Paraag Marathe, it is unlikely that the loans will be sanctioned. They will be allowed to go, but only for money.
