Leicester City will be officially admitted to the Premier League on Thursday – with the club at a crossroads.

The Foxes will be admitted back into English football’s top division but will not find out the conditions under which they will be able to operate next season. And that has left the East Midlands outfit in a quandary following the sudden defection of former boss Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

The Italian’s decision to leave for the bright lights of the capital added to the list of outstanding issues hampering Leicester’s ascendancy. The Premier League holds its annual general meeting where the removal of VAR and the potential introduction of a salary cap will grab the headlines.

But Leicester will get no clarity on the charges over the profit and sustainability issues that caused them so much trouble in the latter part of last season. The only door open to them will be the lifting of the transfer embargo imposed by the Football League last year for breaching financial regulations.

As if this ongoing confusion wasn’t muddying the waters enough, decision makers are weighing how to approach the upcoming season. Leicester have followed a path back to the Premier League through a progressive style of football – one that has led Todd Boehly & Co. to approach former Juventus star Maresca.

But the club must now decide whether to continue with the policy – it would signal an approach for former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper. Alternatively, Leicester can look for an experienced pair of hands to help them through the choppy waters.

An independent commission will set the date by which the club can expect to find out if it has been charged for breaching Premier League rules. And if the club ends up with a points deduction, the list of those willing to take on the task will shorten considerably.

West Brom’s Carlos Corberan will be among those in the squad, but Marcelo Bielsa’s former pupil is under contract at the Hawthorns. One name that will be considered is former Manchester United and West Ham boss David Moyes.
