Leeds United and Roma are deadlocked over a transfer deal for the international defender

What the future holds for Diego Llorente remains unclear. The Leeds United defender is on loan at Roma from January 2023.

The Spain international played 50 times for the Serie A side, including 29 outings last season. But the 30-year-old is set to return to Elland Road this summer after his latest loan spell ends.

Reports in Italy suggest Roma want to sign Llorente on loan again. It has been claimed that Llorente is “pushing” hard to get a permanent deal over the line. Talks are said to be ongoing between the parties.

According to Corriere dello Sport, United could look to move Llorente on a permanent transfer after missing out on a return to the Premier League. A price of 5 million euros was proposed.

Llorente, who is on the Whites’ books from 2020, has two years left on his contract at Elland Road. He recently wrote on social media: “It’s time to look at what’s ahead and strike a balance. We couldn’t be happier because we have a team to be more committed and we’re always trying to achieve big goals.

“However, we overcame difficult moments, left everything on the field. We are fought and we suffer. Thank you for your incredible support. Begin the days of disconnection, rest… and look forward.”

United are expected to look to land a number of players to raise transfer funds and ease their financial concerns.
