Raye presents her new single live at Selhurst Station – Inside Croydon

Well trained: could not confirm if Raye covered the Glenn Miller classic, Chattanooga Choo Choo

Raye gave a surprise performance on a platform at Selhurst Station yesterday, to the delight and bewilderment of passing commuters.

Selhurst train station is just a stone’s throw from where the multi-award winning singer songwriter attended school as a teenager at the renowned BRIT School.

Accompanied by a six-piece blues band, Raye was promoting her first original single from her acclaimed independent debut album.

Raye’s debut studio album, My 21st century blues was released to critical and commercial success and was named Album of the Year at the BRIT Awards earlier this year, one of six trophies claimed by the singer, breaking records for the most wins and nominations for an artist at the ceremony in a single year . .

With trains rushing past on their way to central London as they played, Raye and her band played an extract from her latest work.

A video of the performance appeared on Raye’s Instagram, with the message: “Genesis will be yours at midnight”, which is not believed to be a reference to Phil Collins and co.
