Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley 2024 General Election Candidates

In just a few weeks, voters across the country will cast their ballots in the upcoming general election, deciding who will form the next government. Key issues such as immigration, the economy, foreign policy and the environment are at the forefront of public debate this election cycle.

All 650 parliamentary constituencies across the country are up for grabs on July 4 – including 10 seats here in Birmingham. In Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley, voters will have a choice of six candidates to be their next MP.

The seat – formerly Birmingham Hall Green – was renamed this election after changes to constituency delineation in the United Kingdom. The seat has been held by Labor since the 1990s.

It covers Hall Green, Moseley, Kings Heath, Sparkbrook and Springfield.

Who is the Labor candidate for Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley?

Labour’s candidate for Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley is Tahir Ali. Mr Ali has served as MP for the area since 2019, having previously represented Nechells Ward on Birmingham City Council.

Mr Ali is a member of the Labor Friends of Palestine and the Middle East and a vocal critic of the Prime Minister’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. In January, he apologized after saying Rishi Sunak had “the blood of thousands of innocent people on his hands” after being asked to do so by the Labor leader.

In April, Ali denied claims on a radio show that he was in talks to defect to George Galloway’s Labor Party.
