Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray has already made a name for himself as an 18-year-old in the Championship with Daniel Farke’s side and is sure to be the subject of intense speculation this summer.

The Whites have always boasted a talented academy at Thorp Arch, with new talent emerging every year looking to break into the senior set-up.

Archie Gray was the latest to make his senior debut for the side, breaking into Daniel Farke’s squad following relegation and shining alongside Ethan Ampadu before playing prominently at right-back more recently.

His rapid rise to national recognition was boosted by his England U21 debut this season, coming off the bench to score five minutes later.

What are the details of Archie Gray’s new contract?

The 17-year-old penned a major long-term contract extension in January, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028:

It comes less than a year after he signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2023 when Javi Gracia was at the club.

Archie Gray subject to serious top interest

The midfielder’s form during Leeds’ promotion has understandably been monitored by top Premier League clubs and could lead to further interest.

Liverpool and Newcastle have been linked with the midfielder, while Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are said to have scouted the teenager earlier in the year.

What is the asking price for Archie Gray?

The asking price for Gray will not be cheap, even if Leeds miss out on promotion, given his long-term contract, childhood links to the club and importance in the line-up.

It was claimed by the Daily Mail ahead of the new deal that over £40m would see Leeds listen to offers, but his form continued until 2024.

Leeds All Over’s Kris Smith previously spoke to Football League World about Gray’s potential valuation, in which he alludes to the £58m sale of Romeo Lavia from Southampton as a benchmark:

“I think Gray would be naive to leave too soon.

“But the money we’d be forking out to let him go would put us massively in terms of PSR.

“In the Championship, you only have to go back to the summer when Roméo Lavia left Southampton for £58m. That really, to me, sets a pretty high benchmark for how much we might order.

“A teenage midfielder who is not the star of the show but an incredible talent and someone who is being looked at by so many big clubs. You could easily ask for this kind of fee.

“However, we have him tied up until 2028, so if a team wanted to prize him away from us, you’d have to pay that money at least, or you’d hope anyway.”

What are Archie Gray’s salaries?

Even with a new contract signed, at 18, it should come as no shock that Gray is one of the lowest earners in the first team, with Capology sharing that the midfielder is currently earning £5,000 a week on his contract.

Such a weekly salary puts him in line for £260,000 over the course of his annual salary.

Will Leeds sell Archie Gray in 2024?

How do Gray’s wages compare to his Leeds teammates?

According to the same outlet, his midfield counterparts are considerably more, with Ilia Gruev on £15,000-a-week, while Glen Kamara earns £22,500-a-week and Ampadu brings in £40,000-a-week.

What is intriguing is that it took some time for Leeds to be able to offer Gray a long-term deal on terms befitting his influence in his side, but Helder Costa started the season earning £32,500-a-week (subject to of possible salary reductions) before you have terminated the contract.

Leeds’ joint top earners this season are Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter on £70,000-a-week each, who would of course be subject to the same cuts as others, potentially approaching the £35,000 mark per week in EFL.
