The ‘big’ Ajax player may have ruled out a move to Manchester United this summer

Manchester United’s goalkeeping ranks changed massively last summer, but there could be more changes in the upcoming transfer window.

Erik ten Hag clearly wanted to change his goalkeeping options, but few would have predicted so many moves.

David De Gea’s contract was not extended, while the likes of Jack Butland, Dean Henderson, Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar and Ondrej Mastny continued.

In came Andre Onana, reuniting with his former Ajax boss Ten Hag in a big-money move from Inter Milan.

United also signed Turkey international Altay Bayinidir from Fenerbahce, but he has made just one start since that move.

Bayindir’s lack of action has led to speculation over his future with Trabzonspor linked with a £2.5m summer deal.

United must have goalkeeping targets in mind for the summer should Bayindir push to leave and pursue first-team action elsewhere.

A move for Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro has been mooted, but a potential target has ruled out any move to Old Trafford.

Diant Ramaj’s transfer position following Manchester United’s interest

United fans have become accustomed to seeing links with Ajax players – whether past or present – in the Ten Hag era.

Onana, Lisandro Martinez and Antony have all arrived and one more player has been tied up.

This time, it’s a player who didn’t work with Ten Hag in Amsterdam.

Reports in February suggested United were interested in signing Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj.

The 22-year-old only joined Ajax from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer but has impressed in Holland this season, even being dubbed a “great” goalkeeper by boss John van ‘t Schip.

United have apparently seen Ramaj’s potential, but the London Evening Standard highlights a problem.

They claim Ramaj is reluctant to give up his place as Ajax’s first-choice stopper.

Arsenal are also interested in Ramaj, but the German – who can also play for Kosovo and Albania – does not want to just sit on the bench.

Ramaj is currently injured, but once he returns, he is expected to go straight back into the team ahead of Geronimo Rulli.

Ramaj has spent so much time fighting for first-team action at Heidenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt, so it’s no surprise that he wants to continue in that role at Ajax.

Who else could United sign?

United may struggle to lure Ramaj away from Ajax if the idea is – as expected – for him to serve as Onana’s back-up.

That could leave Ten Hag and co looking elsewhere for another goalkeeper.

American stopper Patrick Schulte has been linked with impressing in Major League Soccer with the Columbus Crew.

The 23-year-old has really broken out over the past year and picked up his first United States cap.

Schulte could fit in as a goalkeeper United look to bring in and develop, but much depends on Bayindir.

The Turkish international definitely understood he would book on to Onana before signing on the dotted line.

However, his lack of playing time in the cup competitions must be a concern and Bayindir may feel he needs to move on already.

United must have targets on their shortlist should that happen, but Ramaj could be one to forget about for now.
