Silly season in Cornwall begins when the car gets stuck on the beach

The unofficial start of Cornwall’s tourist season has begun. Not with the sun breaking through the clouds, but with the annual tradition of a vehicle getting stuck on a sandy beach.

A silver Subaru Forester found itself lodged in the soft sands of Constantine Beach, near Padstow, despite its four-wheel drive capabilities.

An eyewitness shared his account with CornwallLive, saying: “The silly season has begun. Saw this car driving down Constantine Beach last night. No one at the beach helped get her off the sand, everyone just stood there and looked because she shouldn’t be there anyway.”

The incident took place on Thursday (June 6) at 8.46pm, where attempts to free the stuck vehicle proved futile. A female passenger was seen trying to clear the sand with her foot to no avail, prompting the driver to try rocking the car back and forth.

Available footage shows the car momentarily gaining traction before stalling, Cornwall Live reports.

The driver is seen in the video trying to maneuver the car for a better launch from the sand, only to find himself stuck once again. The spectacle attracted the attention of passers-by, with a couple looking on in confusion and a group of visitors observing from a nearby dune.

After about 20 minutes of struggle, the driver was finally able to free his vehicle. In footage sent in by a reader, a woman can be seen standing in front of the driver’s window, apparently engaged in a heated discussion with the driver, while passersby offer commentary.

Our reader shared several videos of the incident. In one clip, a woman can be heard remarking, “It’s never a good idea to drive your car on the beach.”
