Stefan Ortega Moreno extends contract with Manchester City until 2026 – Home of Irish football

Stefan Ortega Moreno has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026.

The German goalkeeper, who joined City in July 2022 from Arminia Bielefeld, has made 34 appearances for the club.

Ortega has played a role in City’s recent successes, including winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League.

Reflecting on his time at City, Ortega said: “I’m excited to stay at Manchester City for a longer time. This is a football club that gives the players everything we need to be the best. Every day I feel motivated and challenged and I have improved as a goalkeeper since coming here two years ago.”

Ortega highlighted his family’s happiness in England and his excitement for the future.

“My family is really settled here in England… I love everything about it here. Signing this deal means I can now focus 100% on next season and beyond.”

Director of football Txiki Begiristain underlined the importance of Ortega’s extension, saying: “This is a crucial contract extension for Manchester City. Stefan is the best No. 2 goalkeeper we have ever had, giving us quality, stability and experience. He is very skilled and it is clear that since his arrival here he has contributed significantly to our success.”

Ortega’s journey at City started with a clean sheet on his competitive debut with Borussia Dortmund. Since then, he has played a role in City’s domestic and European campaigns, including their recent Premier League title win.

Ortega’s save against Heung-min Son in City’s penultimate Premier League game last season was a pivotal moment in a high-pressure situation.
