Dave Day sees people lining the M6 ​​bridges for Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers as Si King turns up

People in parts of the UK have taken to roads and motorways to pay tribute to hairy biker Dave Myers. Dave’s Day is expected to see around 20,000 people honoring the Hairy Bikers legend.

Fellow motorcyclist Hairy Si King, who stopped by the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull today as part of the special day, said: “It’s a celebration of the best friend we’ve lost.” His words came as people stood on bridges in many parts of the M6 ​​to watch a procession in Dave’s honor pass by.

Myers’ widow, Lili Myers, told BBC Breakfast: ‘We have people coming from all over the country. We have people coming from Texas, from Malaysia, from all over Europe.

“Oh, that’s nice. It just helps me through my grieving process. Because it makes me feel like I’m not alone in all of this.

“He always cooked, that was his territory. I was not allowed to enter the kitchen, only to clean the kitchen and, I tell you, he cooks for an hour, I clean for two. He knew how to create a moment. That was his strong point.”

Myers died in February at the age of 66 after suffering from cancer. Dave’s Day was held in his home town of Barrow-in-Furness today, Saturday June 8, to celebrate his life.

A motorcycle procession goes from London to Barrow-in-Furness. There will also be a music concert and a memorial service.

The event will raise funds for cancer charities as well as children’s charity the NSPCC. King, speaking on BBC Breakfast in north-west London on Saturday morning, said the event would be “very emotional”.

He added: “Everybody has that lovely Dave sartorial flair, which is a folded shirt. Some of them had them specially printed, it’s remarkable. I mean, you wouldn’t buy a used car from them, would you?

King added: “It’s a celebration of the best friend I’ve lost. And, yes, it is, it’s very emotional.

“You never know how these things are going to affect you, you know – it’s a celebration of Dave’s life. That’s why we’re here because he was so irritatingly positive all the time.

“And we love him and that’s why we’re here.” King added that he wants people to say they’re having a “Dave day” instead of a “great day.”

Jason Woodcock, organizer of Dave Day, told BBC Breakfast: “I went to see him the day before he died. Lili asked me for some bikes together for his funeral, which I did. Some of the guys who are here today were too.

“They got to the funeral, had a few beers like you would. And then the idea came up during the conversation to do a memorial walk.” He added that the people of Barrow have been “amazing” – even offering spare rooms and gardens for people to camp as there is no accommodation left.

Si King said about 20,000 people will attend. The star also issued a serious warning about cancer.

“He doesn’t care who it takes,” he said. “And that’s part of why we’re here.

“We’re all like-minded people, you know, and it’s diverse and it’s as varied as every bike you see, all the characters and personalities here are just great. That’s what a journey is all about, because riding a motorcycle isn’t about A to B, it’s about the little bit in between, and that’s the part of life we ​​all celebrate.

“That’s what it’s all about.”

Biker Stan told BBC Breakfast he was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. He said the day would be “phenomenal”.
