How could Leicester under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer line up with Man Utd’s past, present and future making all the transfers

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER could be set to make a shock return to a Premier League dugout.

As exclusively revealed by SunSport, Leicester City have made contact with the Norwegian to appoint him as their new boss.

Championship-winning gaffer Enzo Maresca left the King Power earlier this week to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

And that has left the Leicester hierarchy to draw up a shortlist of candidates to take the Italian’s place.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, former West Ham boss David Moyes, free agent Graham Potter and former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper are all in contention with the bookies.

But Solskjaer has emerged as a surprise candidate – and SunSport understands the former Manchester United boss is keen to take over.

The Foxes could be hit with a points deduction and any transfers will have to be kept within a strict budget.

But how might Leicester line up if Solskjaer takes over?

GK: MADS HERMANSEN

The Danish goalkeeper was very reliable for the Foxes in their title-winning campaign.

Comfortable with his feet and an excellent shot stopper, he could be snapped up by a bigger club next summer.

RB: AARON WAN-BISSAKA

Solskjaer signed Wan-Bissaka from United from Crystal Palace in 2019 and was his number one right-back during his tenure at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old defender is out of contract next year, so a deal could be reached – especially if Leicester cash in on Ricardo Pereira.

CB: NO FAES

The Belgian defender has played most of the 2023-24 season.

Although he has a blunder in him and often a jet of blood to his head, the crazy-haired centre-back is likely to be a key figure.

CB: JANNIK VESTERGAARD

The Danish giant was public enemy no. 1 around KP a year ago, but a year under Maresca changed everything.

He has been rewarded with a shock new three-year contract to stay at Leicester – although Solskjaer may prefer Conor Coady or rising young talent Ben Nelson.

LB: JAMES JUSTIN

The versatile full-back broke into the England squad in 2022 and battled with loanee Callum Doyle at left-back last season.

He’s a solid option — though his high salary could make him balance the payroll with Brandon Williams now a free agent.

CM: JAMES MCATEE

Leicester have been long-term admirers of McAtee, who has been loaned out by Manchester City to Sheffield United twice.

SunSport have revealed Leicester are battling Girona to land him this summer – although Maresca’s departure could make things difficult.

CM: JORDAN JAMES

The Foxes are also keen on Birmingham City and ten-cap Wales star James, as is Julen Lopetegui at West Ham.

The 19-year-old has been a rare bright light in a disappointing season for the Blues – and could be a replacement if Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and/or Harry Winks follow Maresca out the exit door.

RW: OMARI FORSON

Forson joined United’s academy in January 2019, a month after Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho.

The 19-year-old forward struggled to break into the first team under Erik ten Hag, making his debut against Wigan in January, and is out of contract this month, so could be available on a free transfer.

CAM: JESSE LINGARD

Lingard was at Leicester before – a brief five-game, two-month loan spell in 2012-13 – and is now with FC Seoul after a year at Foxes rivals Forest.

He left United under a cloud and had a public spat with Solskjaer – citing “false promises” – but this could be a perfect chance to bury the hatchet and revive his Premier League career.

LW: STEPHY MAVIDIDI

Former Arsenal and Juventus player Mavididi set the Championship alight in his first season at Leicester – racking up 13 goals and six assists.

Abdul Fatawu has caused havoc on the right wing – seven goals and 13 assists – and Foxes fans will be desperate for him to join permanently from Sporting after promotion.

ST: JAMIE VARDY

The veteran striker was Leicester’s top scorer in the second leg, netting an impressive 18 goals.

And having put pen to paper on another one-year deal, Premier League defenders will be terrified that a 38-year-old Vardy will once again put the ruck on them, especially following the release of Kelechi Iheanacho.
