Police statement as man fighting for life after Sheffield attack

A man who suffered life-threatening injuries during an attack in Sheffield was assaulted, police said.

South Yorkshire Police closed Staniforth Road in Darnall on Saturday night after receiving reports of an attack. A 22-year-old man was allegedly taken to the hospital where he will receive treatment.




His injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Police initially said the man had been stabbed, but are now trying to determine whether he was stabbed or attacked.

Officers are standing guard at the cordon which has been erected on Staniforth Road, with motorists being urged to avoid the area. The road was closed and said at the time to be due to a “police incident”.

In a statement, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We were alerted by the ambulance service at 4.36pm today (Saturday 8 June) to reports of a stabbing on Staniforth Road in Darnall, Sheffield .

“A 22-year-old man is reported to have suffered a stab wound to the head. He is currently being taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

“The Staniforth Road is currently closed while officers carry out their work. Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes if possible.”
