Four in hospital after a walking accident at the London fair

Four people were taken to hospital after a fairground ride in south London went awry, police said.

At least four ambulances were sent to Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park at around 6.20pm as the funfair was closed to visitors. An air ambulance was dispatched to the park, as was a hazardous area response team.

Police said they were awaiting more details on the condition of the four people. “No one is caught in the race,” the statement added.

Lambeth Council described the incident as “serious”. An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the failure.

Witnesses told MailOnline that the ride sent people “flying into the air” and led to a scene where “all hell broke loose”.

“‘People were running towards us and crying and screaming,” said an eyewitness. “I saw a lady with blood running down her face. She had paramedics carry her off the trip.”

Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, said she was “shocked” to learn of the failure of the fair trip. She added: “My thoughts are with those who have been hurt.”

This is breaking news and will be updated.
