PSG make Manchester City star ‘priority’ from ‘discussions’ signing for forgotten man

With the summer transfer window opening next Friday, Manchester City will be hoping they are out of the limelight in English football.

The reigning champions have taken legal action against the Premier League over new rules on associated party transactions (APTs). The rules limit the amount of money an owner-affiliated business can pump into their club through sponsorship.

Apart from that, City will have some decisions to make regarding players who are no longer in their plans for the new 2024/25 season. While they are expected to complete some transfer business this summer, they also need to ensure they stay within the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Julian Alvarez made a “priority” signing.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing a move for Julian Alvarez following the departure of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid.

According to Caught Offside, the French giants have met with City representatives. They are said to have informed the club that they intend to make the Argentina international a priority signing when the summer transfer window opens.

The report adds that Alvarez will be offered a long-term contract in Paris, which would run until 2029.

MEN Sport says: It will take a lot of convincing to get City to part with one of their prized assets. The World Cup winner is a top talent and his ability to play in different roles remains attractive to boss Pep Guardiola. With Chelsea also reported to be monitoring his situation at the Etihad, it would be a mistake for the club to sell Alvarez.

The La Liga club opens discussions for the defender

Left-back Sergio Gomez is expected to leave the Etihad this summer after becoming surplus to requirements for Guardiola.

Conformable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad have opened talks over Gomez as they look for a replacement for Kieran Tierney. The Scotland international has returned to Arsenal after spending a season on loan in Spain.

Meanwhile, Gomez completed a move to City from Anderlecht in 2022 but has struggled to cement a regular place in the team. Over the past two seasons, the 21-year-old has made 38 appearances.

MEN Sport says: It is important for City to offload players who are not part of Guardiola’s plans, and City will be hoping to recoup some of the £11m they spent on signing Gomez to stay within the cap The rules of profit and sustainability. According to transfermarkt, he is currently valued at £8m.
