Danny Rohl ‘sets up’ to make ‘huge’ player his first summer signing at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday look ‘set’ to re-sign a ‘huge’ player on loan this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are just days away from the summer transfer window and will be eager to land some of the players they have been linked with.

The Owls will need to boost their ranks if they are to secure a top-half finish this season, but they may have to act quickly if they are to avoid losing out to other teams.

While they will mostly be looking for top-quality players to replace some of their weaker points, they are also hoping to re-sign some of the loanees who shone last term.

Ian Poveda, Ike Ugbo and James Beadle are all on the club’s radar, although the latter looks most likely to return to Hillsborough.

James Beadle is set to return to Sheffield Wednesday

According to The Sun this morning (p.55), Brighton are “prepared to send” Beadle back to Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

There has been uncertainty over whether the Seagulls will allow the 19-year-old to leave, but the report claims they will send him back to Yorkshire and instead debate the future of Carl Rushworth, who impressed at Swansea last season.

The goalkeeper is wanted by Ipswich Town this summer but could be forced to stay as Brighton look to guarantee regular game time for on-loan Beadle.

Beadle’s return will come after reports claim Cameron Dawson will leave on Wednesday after 14 years, while Ben Hamer will arrive on a free transfer.

Do the Owls need to sign a third goalkeeper this summer?

After Beadle’s “immense” six months with the club, there is little doubt he will retain the No.1 spot for next season, while Hamer will be back-up.

What will be interesting to see is if Danny Rohl will want to add another goaltender to the team or use Pierce Charles as another option.

The teenager has made two appearances for the senior side in the FA Cup this year, while being named on the bench on several occasions.

Like Beadle at Brighton, Charles needs game time to develop and grow, so keeping Charles on Wednesday as the third-choice goalkeeper seems like a waste.

The youngster’s best option is surely to be sent out on loan to one of the lower leagues, as his only opportunity could be a few more appearances in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

In that case, the Owls will have to look to add another stopper to the team in the next few months.
