Leeds United are preparing for surprise move to Aston Villa after Premier League call-up

It was a move that Leeds United supporters will not look back on fondly, the arrival in the January 2023 transfer window of Weston McKennie. Arriving from Juventus, there was initial optimism that the American international would be a huge success under then-manager Jesse Marsch.

His compatriot soon left and, indeed, things were no better for McKennie in the months that followed before his summer exit. Substituted in his last appearance for Leeds as the Whites headed for relegation, the chants from all four corners of the pitch summed up the feeling towards a player who could never find anything like the form that saw Juventus brings him to Serie A.

That hasn’t been the case over the past 12 months, with the 25-year-old midfielder becoming a key player for Juve, re-establishing himself as a starting midfielder and helping the club win the Coppqa Italia final. While that may be the case, Juventus are willing to let him leave this summer and are proposing a trade with Aston Villa for 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz.

According to Italian website calciomercato, Juventus are keen to offload Luiz and are ready to send Villains McKennie instead, giving the American a second chance to impress in the Premier League. Arsenal have also targeted Luiz, which could be a deal-breaker for Juventus, but if the Italian club can beat them to his signature, expect to see McKennie back in English football next season.
