Liverpool supporters have sent Arne Slot an exciting message, as claimed by Jose Mourinho

Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has praised the club’s new head coach Arne Slot, who is backing his fellow Dutchman to succeed as he did at Feyenoord.

The Reds are undergoing a major shake-up as we speak, with the club moving from former manager Jurgen Klopp to a new set-up of coaches and backroom staff. Taking over the first team is Slot, winner of an Eredivisie title and a KNVB Cup from his previous role in his homeland.

During his tenure, he invited former Reds hero Wijnaldum to train with his Feyenoord squad while the midfielder was on the lookout for a new club last summer. From that experience alone, the 33-year-old was able to give a full insight into what Liverpool can expect.

“In Arne Slot, I think Liverpool have really acquired a great successor,” he told Algemeen Dagblad. “The fact that not everyone knows Slot inside out in England is not a problem at all.

“I trained at Feyenoord for a few more days at the beginning of this season and there I saw how Slot worked. He was at a very high level, I thought it was great.”

After winning four trophies under Klopp at Liverpool, he later competed under Jose Mourinho at AS Roma. In that season-long loan, the Italian club finished as runners-up in the UEFA Europa League.
