Michael Mosley – man’s body found ‘so close’ to where tourists swim and drink

Tourists are relaxing in the sun and sea, just yards from where a body was found in TV doctor search Michael Mosley. Staff at a nearby restaurant are serving drinks to customers, the Telegraph reports – and the person who was found dead was “so close” to the shelter, a hiker says.

People are still playing in the sea and taking photos of each other on the sunbeds. It comes as police and coastguards investigate the discovery about 90 meters away.

The beach bar near where the body was found on the island of Symi is in a large complex surrounded by a high wire and stone fence. Outside the compound there is no shelter or shade from the unrelenting heat.

Tourist Sindy Seenarine, 50, who has visited Symi every six months for 14 years, said the man was “so close to shelter”. She also said the high temperatures are unusual for the time of year.

The insurance worker, who lives in Surbiton, Surrey, told the PA news agency: “The tragedy is that it was so close to the shelter. Maybe he was trying desperately to get here?

“We come here every year twice a year – that’s the tragedy for me if it’s so close to the shelter. This is the hottest since we’ve been here, July and August are hotter.

“I have never experienced this heat in Symi in June.”

British journalists and a hospitality worker were the first to see the body found during the search for Michael Mosley. It was discovered under a fence that runs around the Agia Marina beach bar on the Greek island.

The bar is surrounded by hilly and rocky terrain that slopes down to the sea. The body, along with an umbrella, was found about 90 meters inland from the coast.

Helicopters searched the area “every day”, bar staff said.
