Local residents have opposed plans to build 50 new homes on new land in a village near Huddersfield.

Newett Homes has submitted plans for the development of homes, from one-bedroom properties to five-bedroom family homes, off Shepley Road in Stocksmoor.

Kirklees Council received 10 objections in response to the application, with one resident slamming the plans as “totally wrong”.

But the developer claims the new homes will meet “local needs”. A decision is expected to be made by August 9.

“Small Estate”

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), concerns raised around the development include the impact on the area and its wildlife, increased traffic and the number of homes envisaged in the plans.

One resident said: “I don’t think building 50 houses would benefit the local area as it would destroy part of Stone’s Wood, as well as being built in an area not designed for high traffic, which would have 50 new houses. bring.

“This would be most obvious on Shepley Road heading towards Shepley which is almost completely single carriageway.”

Another wrote: “My husband and I moved to Stocksmoor because it is a small village. In addition, 50 houses make a major contribution to the number of dwellings in the village – you are effectively building a small estate.

“It is simply too much and it is detrimentally changing the nature and character of the village forever.”

“Local Needs”

A statement from the developer said: “Newett Homes creates luxury homes built to the highest standards.

“We believe the application site provides a fantastic opportunity to provide the local population with high quality new housing that meets local needs.”
