Boy, 16, and man, 21, arrested after police seize machete and stolen car

West Midlands Police have confirmed that two people have been arrested following an incident where a Ford Focus was reported stolen from Smethwick on Sunday.

Investigating officers tracked down the stolen vehicle just over an hour after it was taken from the address in the afternoon.

Officers discovered the vehicle in Blakeley Hall Road, Oldbury, at around 4pm, where two people tried to run away.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We made two arrests after recovering a machete and a stolen car following prompt police work in Sandwell.

“We tracked the Ford Focus just over an hour after it was reported stolen from Smethwick yesterday afternoon.

“After discovering the car in Blakeley Hall Road, Oldbury, two people tried to run from officers at around 4pm.”

The two were quickly apprehended while a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the machete.

The spokesman continued: “They were quickly apprehended and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a machete.

“A 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of a knife.”

Both remain in police custody for further questioning.
