Simple tip to cook ‘perfect’ fried eggs in 45 seconds

There’s nothing like tucking into fried eggs with perfectly golden yolks, but keeping them intact can be a challenge. Sunny-side-up eggs don’t require flipping, but often result in runny yolks and undercooked whites, while over-easy eggs should be perfectly set but run the risk of falling apart and turning into an omelette when flipped. .

However, Meaghan Webster, an egg recipe developer and the brains behind Meags Eggs, has shared a no-nonsense technique for cooking perfectly fried eggs, all too easily, without the need to flip them at all. Meaghan explained: “I tried to like eggs too easy. Except it wasn’t so easy and I got lazy. So I practice the lid method regularly.”

She details her approach saying it involved “letting the heat of a pan cook the bottom of an egg and covering the pan to steam the top of the egg,” the Express reports. The simple method simply involves letting the heat reach the top of the egg, making sure it cooks perfectly without any flipping.

The process is simple: pour some olive oil into a pan and heat it over medium heat for about a minute. Next, crack the eggs into the pan and cook for about a minute until the whites start to set, then immediately cover the pan with a lid.

Meaghan advised, “Cover the pan with a lid for the last 45-60 seconds, or until the top of the whites have set but the yolk is still soft. To check, move the pan to see if the yolk still wobbles.

“When cooked to your liking, use a spatula to transfer the egg to a plate. Repeat the previous steps with the second egg.” Since no flipping is required, there is no risk of eggs breaking during cooking, so you can get perfectly cooked fried eggs every time.
