Malnourished pickpocket abandoned on the street

A malnourished dog was found wandering the streets after being left to fend for himself.

Diana, the three-year-old pocket bully, was picked up by a member of the public on Holden Road in Prescot on May 17. She was taken to a local veterinary surgery in Liverpool where vets contacted the RSPCA.

Diana was so thin when she was brought in, her ribs were visible and her hip bones were sticking out.

RSPCA Inspector Leanne Cooper said: “The dog was extremely emaciated and was so thin that you could see all his ribs and the protruding hip bones.

“We suspect that she was neglected for some time and that she was malnourished before she was abandoned.”

She continued: “I would love to hear from anyone who recognizes Diana or knows where she might have come from or who owned her. You can get in touch with us by calling our helpline on 0300 123 8018 and leaving a message using the reference number 1268936.”

Vets believe Diana may be related to another dog of a similar breed, who was also brought in after being abandoned emaciated weeks before.

Inspector Cooper added: “Unfortunately, there are a lot of dogs out there who need help and while we’d like to be there for all of them, we just can’t. That’s why we’re asking the public to do their part to help create a better world for animals.

“If you find a stray dog, please contact your local authority, who provide a help service for stray, lost and missing dogs. If you are concerned that the dog may be ill or injured – like poor Diana here – then please take them to a local vet who will be able to get them the help they need as quickly as possible and then call us if they suspect neglect or cruelty.

“We want to make sure animals in need get the help they need as quickly as possible, so we’re grateful to everyone who is doing their part to help. Together, we can all help create a kinder world for everyone.”
