USMNT international Brenden Aaronson will remain at Leeds United

US international midfielder Brenden Aaronson will remain at Leeds United this season after a positive conversation with head coach Daniel Farke, sources with knowledge of the situation say. The Athletic.

Aaronson still had an active release clause where he could have left again on a free loan and would have had interest in Germany, but opted to return to Leeds. Aaronson spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Union Berlin. The player feels he has unfinished business in England and Farke plans for the American to play a key role in their promotion, sources say.

Leeds lost in the Championship play-off final against Southampton after finishing third in the table.

How Leeds United fell short: Farke’s first full season, 49ers influence and what now?

Aaronson, 23, had a rough start to life in Germany but finished strong. He has appeared in 30 of the club’s 34 league matches and all six of their Champions League matches.

The Yorkshire Evening Post first reported that Aaronson was likely to stay at Leeds this summer.

The Athletic first revealed the release clause in Aaronson’s contract last summer, which meant interested clubs only had to cover his full salary as part of the deal. This clause remains active.

Aaronson appeared in 36 of the club’s 38 Premier League games in 2022–23 as they were relegated. He has been criticized by fans for his lack of goalscoring contributions, particularly for his high price tag. Leeds originally signed Aaronson in the summer of 2022 for £25 million ($30 million) from RB Salzburg.

The American international is preparing for the Copa America and already has 40 caps with the national team.
