Horror as man rushed to hospital after collapsing on ‘rat infested’ road before air ambulance landed at the scene

One person was rushed to hospital after a reported crash on a ‘rat-ridden’ road in Stockport on Monday night (June 10). Emergency services attended the scene on Osborne Street in Bredbury at around 5.20pm.

An air ambulance also rushed to the scene and landed in a nearby field. A car was reported to have been seen in a number of other vehicles.

Residents have since criticized the way drivers use the residential street as a “cut-out” and “rat run”. The road was closed for several hours with a huge cordon in place amid investigations.

One vehicle appeared to have been smashed into a shop window as police tape was also erected around several other cars. Further details of the incident have yet to be confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

Several residents said roads in the area are regularly used as “cutaways” but were shocked by the scale of the crime scene and the police presence.

A 51-year-old local man said he returned from holiday today to find police swarming the street he has lived on for 23 years. “It’s awful, absolutely awful. There was nothing to this extent,” he said.

His neighbor said: “There are lots of cuts. It’s a rat race.”

There were reports among neighbors at the scene that one of the cars involved in the crash had been stolen and had been driven into a parked car – but this has yet to be confirmed by police.

An air ambulance was seen leaving the scene just after 7.15pm after landing in Daisyfield Recreation Ground, known locally as The Daisy.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that one person was taken to hospital following the crash.

A statement said: “This evening (Monday, June 10) at 5.20pm fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Osborne Street, Stockport. A fire engine from Whitehill quickly attended the incident, which involved two vehicles.

“One person was treated at the scene by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital. Crews are now working to make the area safe and remain on scene.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information.
