The first Inside Out 2 reactions arrive before the theatrical release

Inside Out 2 hits theaters this week, and now we have the first reactions to the long-awaited Pixar sequel.

The sequel to the 2015 blockbuster sees Riley turn 13, bringing to mind some new emotions in the form of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser ).

Ahead of its release on Friday (June 14), the lucky few who have already seen Inside Out 2 took to Twitter to share their first reactions to the sequel.

So does it live up to Inside Out?

“There’s no need to worry about Inside Out 2. Pixar’s sequel tackles growing up in the same funny, inventive and poignant way as the first film,” he wrote The digital spyIan Sandwell’s film editor.

“It doesn’t hit as hard emotionally (no take-it-to-the-moon moments), but it delivers a relatable message in a winning way.”

Variety’s Jazz Tangcay hails Inside Out 2 as “animation perfection,” calling it a worthy sequel: “#InsideOut2 heralds Pixar’s return to top form. Everything from the animation to the story and the introduction of anxiety, envy and embarrassment make it one of the best. the sequels in the ages.

“Full of great laughs, lots of Easter eggs and lots of excitement. This is animated perfection.”

Peter Howell of the Toronto Star was also impressed with the new character additions, admitting that he preferred the four new emotes in the sequel, calling them “more creative”.

“#InsideOut2 is a MASTERPIECE! A hilarious WONDER from start to finish that truly epitomizes anxiety,” wrote another reviewer. “Maya Hawke and Amy Poehler are as lovely as ever, with the newcomers adding even more sparkle. This heartwarming Pixar classic will make you experience all the sweet emotions.”

One reviewer also called Stranger Things star Maya Hawke a “standout” in what is a film with “a huge heart.”

This was echoed by The Movie Podcast host Daniel Baptista, who writes “Maya Hawke is unforgettable as anxiety”.

Prior to release, Inside Out 2 was confirmed to be slightly shorter than the first film, clocking in at 96 minutes compared to Inside Out’s 100 minutes.

UK audiences will also notice a difference with the sequel as Sam Thompson has a UK voice cameo as Security Man Sam. Talk with The digital spyexpressed surprise at being asked to stay on.

“It wasn’t even a question. Like, ‘Tell me where and when, I’ll be there,'” he recalled. “I don’t think I have a particularly good voice, but I only like three lines. So it’s obviously not the biggest deal in the world.

“It’s a bucket list thing, to be able to go in and do something that all these wonderful people are doing.”

Inside Out 2 will be released in theaters on June 14.
