Defeat in Saturday’s Challenge Cup final will still sting and may well for some time.

However, Warrington Wolves must now focus on what remains of the Super League season – and resume their campaign in a good position.

The first piece of silverware of the season eluded them at Wembley as they were beaten 18-8 by Wigan Warriors, who now currently hold every trophy available in the men’s game.

They are one of the teams that The Wire are competing with at the top of the Super League and with 14 games to go, the season has not yet reached the halfway mark.

Here’s how the Super League table looks ahead of round 14 this weekend…

Warrington Wolves are preparing to return to Super League action

The Wire’s next test sees Salford Red Devils visit the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night.

It’s an important game not only for Warrington’s sake as they look to bounce back from their Wembley disappointment and avoid a third successive defeat, but also in the context of the table, with Paul Rowley’s men just two points behind them.

Revenge may also be on the minds of Sam Burgess’ men as Salford are one of three teams to have beaten them this year – Wigan and Catalans being the others – after they won 17-12 at the Community Stadium Salford in round nine.

Three of Warrington’s next four games are at home, with Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos visiting in the early stages of July after the international break, after Burgess’ side travel to Hull FC next weekend.

After the Leeds game on July 11, however, only three of the 10 regular season games remaining from that point will be at home.

Warrington still have home and away games to play against St Helens, Huddersfield Giants and London Broncos, while they play twice against Leeds – the Rhinos will be their Magic Weekend opponents at Elland Road on Saturday 17 August.
