London Cares Curb Hunger campaign totals

Demand is growing at the London Food Bank and thankfully the shelves filled up a bit this weekend after the London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign.

The initiative which ran between May 29 and June 8 saw £87,800. of food collected from community donations.

Here’s how the numbers break down:

  • Delivery to grocery stores, fire halls and London Food Bank 17,030 lbs.
  • Corporate Donations 24,625 lbs.
  • Community Refreshment Program 25,625 lbs.
  • Financial Donations 20,520 lbs. (equivalent)

“Each year the Campaign has been successful in helping the London Food Bank collect fresh food for people and families in need, particularly in the summer months,” Glenn Pearson, co-director of the Food Bank, said in a statement .

“We encourage residents, businesses and community partners to donate to the London Food Bank if and whenever they can so that everyone has access to nutritious food all year round,” he added.

In its 28th year, the campaign helps feed more than 29,000 people in the city.
