A DEVASTATING fire tears through the historic pub as landlords issue a heartbreaking statement

A massive fire has ripped through a pub on the outskirts of Coventry, causing “substantial damage”. The Cottage Inn in Fillongley confirmed the “heartbreaking” news in a statement on social media this morning (May 10).

Firefighters have been at the pub in Black Hall Lane since before 5.30am. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that 50 per cent of the building’s first floor and roof had been consumed by the blaze.

As a result, the pub, which dates back to the 18th century, with parts believed to be over 300 years old, suffered severe damage. In the statement issued by its owners, it says it is unclear when they can reopen.

“While the family is safe, we are all of course heartbroken. Thank you for your continued support during this difficult time. Luke, Ellie and the x-team

On its website, the pub confirmed: “We will update our website and Facebook page when we have a reopening date.” It adds: “We have lost some of the contact details for future bookings so we may not be able to contact you to cancel a future booking.
