According to police, a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 45-year-old Windsor Locks resident was traveling on I-91 North just south of exit 38 in the right lane of three.

That’s when, police said, “for an unknown reason,” the motorcycle driven by Schlagel struck the back of the pickup truck.

Schlagel, according to the report, had been riding in the back of the pickup truck.

As a result of the collision, police said, Schlagel was thrown from his motorcycle and subsequently struck by a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe SUV driven by a 27-year-old East Hartford man.

The operator of the pickup pulled over and came to rest on the right shoulder of I-91, along with the driver of the Hyundai.

The driver of the Dodge was uninjured, while the operator of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Schlagel’s motorcycle ended up in the wave between the HOV lot and the freeway, with Schlagel pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
