Planning and Highways Solicitor at Sheffield City Council

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of Sheffield City Council’s Legal Services team in the role of Highways and Planning Solicitor.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is flexible and enjoys teamwork. We welcome applications from individuals who are motivated to apply their knowledge and experience in providing practical, solution-focused legal advice to the Council on planning and highways issues.

The successful candidate will manage a wide range of planning and highways issues, including drafting and negotiating all types of planning and highways agreements, attending and briefing the Planning Committee and has experience of advising and supporting planning and highways officers on issues of politics.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide authoritative advice to officers and Board members, ensuring that decisions and actions are legal. Experience of working in the public sector would be helpful but not essential if the candidate can demonstrate the necessary experience in planning law and highways.

This role is based in Sheffield but we actively support flexible working arrangements and the city is centrally located with excellent transport links and we consider the wellbeing of our employees in the way we design and deliver our legal services. You can expect the ability to work flexibly, including hybrid working, to be a feature of working for Sheffield City Council.

This is a politically restricted post under the terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks a year and we offer generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussing a range of flexible working opportunities that benefit you and the Council, including reduced hours contracts, part-time work or as a shared workplace.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the final grade. If you provide proof of pay that your base pay is higher than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the minimum advantage point within the grade.
