Sheffield homicide detectives investigating after 23-year-old man died in ‘targeted’ attack in Darnall

A man who suffered serious head injuries in a targeted attack in Sheffield at the weekend has sadly died.

South Yorkshire Police were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service at around 4.36pm on Saturday 8 June to reports of a serious assault on Staniforth Road in Darnall.

When emergency services arrived, a 23-year-old man was found with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he sadly passed away yesterday evening (Monday, June 10).

The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers, a force spokesman said.

A murder investigation is now underway and detectives are trying to piece together the circumstances of the man’s death and ensure that the person responsible is brought to justice.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody at this time.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who has CCTV or dashcam footage or any information which you think may help us with our enquiries.
