Get ready for Hanwell Carnival 2024 Saturday 15 June – EALING.NEWS – The Voice of Ealing 7 cities

Hanwell Carnival returns to Elthorne Park on Saturday 15 June 2024 for its 126th year, making it the oldest event of its kind in London and also one of the oldest in the country.

This year we are delighted to welcome Hanwell Square, a FABRICA development by A2Dominion and Higgins, as our prize sponsor. This marks their third year supporting the Carnival and we are incredibly grateful for their continued commitment.

It all starts with the parade from Hanwell Community Center at 11am, arriving in Elthorne Park in time for the official opening by the Mayor of Ealing, Councilor Yvonne Johnson.

As well as local schools, scouts, brownies and guides and of course the Hanwell Ukelele Group (HUG), the parade will include Irish Dancers, Bolivian Dancers and Hanwell Karate Club amongst others. The theme for the decorated floats is Hanwell Through the Seasons so look out for some great shows.

The main event fun starts in Elthorne Park at 12.00pm. What can you expect to find?

Musical extravaganza
On the main musical stage is London Zulu, featuring members of the original pioneers of global funk, Transglobal Underground. We also have three young bands from the Powerjam Band Project. The Surgeonaires are veterans of the west London pub and club scene and TJ Holy Boy Johnson has wowed the crowd at the last two Ealing Jazz Festivals. Music scene curator Doug Stephens says: “We’ve got a great mix of acts this year, from singers to brilliant jazz and funk, and we can’t wait to see the Powerjam academy too.”
The Community Stage at the Central Bandstand is brought to you by Westside Radio. Westside’s Sone Palda told us, “Our hosts are DJ D-Zine, Olivia Jackson and Shaniyaa. They will be featuring a local community choir, the Pauline Quirke Academy, Irish dancing, bhangra, Zumba and more. Tune in to Westside for news of a legendary performer in the closing jam session.”

Stalls, charities, crafts and animals
More than 30 local charities will be present at the Carnival, some of which have been regulars for many years. Des McManus from the carnival committee said: “We encourage everyone to support good local causes as for many of them it is the biggest day of the year.” A similar number of merchants will also participate, offering vintage clothing, artwork, jewelry, specialty items. cakes and pastries.

The Craft Tent is run by Charm Miller who told us: “Last year we had the most crafters ever at the Carnival and we hope to have as many as possible this time. We’ll have a great mix of products, all made by local artisans – ceramics, wood, skincare, beauty, prints, silk scarves, etc. All items are reasonably priced so you should find some bargains there.”

The dog show is always one of the most popular features at the Carnival. Dogworthy’s Kat Williams will lead the session which includes training classes, questions and answers as well as the usual show categories. Owners can sign their dogs up for the various classes on the day. Nearby is the Animal Zone, which offers donkey rides and a petting farm with Shetland ponies, sheep, goats, rabbits and some reptiles.
Children’s entertainment

Helen Papadopoulos explained: “We’ll be focusing on all the usual youth attractions – face painting, funfair, go-karts and inflatables. Many of the charity stalls will give children the chance to win a prize to remember the day by.”

Food and drink
Rose Perreira added: “It’s a long day so there’s plenty of refreshments to keep you going. There is a great range of catering in the park with food from the Caribbean, Taiwan, Morocco, India, Greece, Thailand, plus burgers, vegetarian and vegan options, donuts and ice cream. The Dodo Micropub in Hanwell runs the licensed bar and you can get teas, coffees and sweets from many of the charity stalls.”

15 June 2024 promises to be a great family day out for the people of Hanwell, so let’s hope the weather stays good and make sure you’re there.
