First photo of ‘beloved’ dad who died after car crashed into tree

A father who died after a car crashed into a tree will be ‘wanted forever’.

Emergency services were called to Southworth Road in Newton-le-Willows at around 10.30pm on Monday, June 10. It followed a report that a white Ford Kuga had been traveling along Southworth Road in the direction of Church Street when it left the road.




The car then crashed into a tree near the junction of Mere Road and a 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has now been named as Jonathan Mennell.

His family have paid an emotional tribute following his tragic death. They said: “As a family we are deeply saddened and shocked to hear that our beloved Jonny has passed away.

“Beloved son, father, brother, nephew, cousin and friend to all. Anyone who knew Jonny will be devastated by this news as all he did was make people laugh and smile. He will be forever missed, may he now rest in peace. X”

A second man was also injured in the crash, and police said no other vehicles were believed to have been involved. A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit by drink or drugs.
