Shock and concern after ‘woman found on fire’ in Bradford McDonald’s toilet

SHOCK has been expressed after a woman was “found on fire” in a Bradford McDonald’s toilet.

The restaurant in Ingleby Road, Girlington, was cordoned off by police following a concern about the safety report yesterday afternoon.

Officers attended and after further investigation determined that a woman was “found burning in a toilet”.

After the fire was extinguished, the woman was taken to hospital with “significant injuries”.

This morning the Telegraph & Argus was told by West Yorkshire Police that her injuries were not life-threatening.

According to the police, the incident is not considered suspicious.

The McDonald’s was closed following the incident but was back open when T&A visited this morning.

Staff there would not speak about the incident and advised T&A to contact the McDonald’s press office for a statement.

So far no statement has been received from the company’s press office.

People who spoke to T&A spoke of their shock at what happened and said their thoughts are with the woman.

One man was visibly upset by the incident and said: “This is very bad news.”

Another man said: “I heard about what happened.

“It’s shocking.

“We hope the woman will be OK.”

Delivery drivers also spoke of their shock at the incident.

On T&A’s Facebook page, one woman said it was “awful”.

“I hope he recovers,” she added.

“Poor woman,” another person added.

“I hope it will be OK”.

“It’s awful,” added another woman.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman told the T&A this morning: “A woman has suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries following an incident at a McDonald’s restaurant on Ingleby Road yesterday.

“No one else has been involved in this incident which is being treated as non-suspicious.”

Yesterday, a spokesman for the force said: “Police are in attendance at the McDonald’s restaurant on Ingleby Road after a woman was found with significant injuries.

“At 3.15pm a call was received regarding a concern for the safety of a female at an undisclosed location.

“Following further investigation, the police attended the restaurant where a woman was found on fire in the toilet area.

“The fire was extinguished and the woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

“Enquiries are ongoing but at this time there is nothing to suggest that anyone else was involved in this incident.”
