Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Will Vaulks has opted to join Oxford United because of the U’s stronger desire to get a deal done, says The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday will officially lose midfielder Vaulks when his contract expires at the end of this month.

The Owls have pushed to keep hold of the popular 30-year-old but he will join Championship rivals Oxford United next season following their promotion through the League One play-offs.

It ends Vaulks’ stay at Hillsborough after two years, during which he managed two goals and five assists in 92 games. His midfield efforts were key to promotion in the 2022/23 season and he then became key in keeping them in the Championship.

But now details have emerged of his decision to turn down Sheffield Wednesday and head to Oxford United.

The Star report that the three-year contract offered by the Yellows and their stronger desire to have Vaulks on their books were key to his move. The Welshman was not actively looking for a move away from Hillsborough, but Oxford seemed to want him more.
