Fire crews in Leicester are attacking ‘inconsiderate’ parking which has blocked the junction

Fire crews in Leicester have hit out at ‘inconsiderate’ parked vehicles which were blocking their emergency response. This is not the first time that officials have spoken about the problem of parking in the city.

The latest statement came from Eastern fire station after crews encountered problems on Buxton Street and Mere Road in Spinney Hills this week. Crews even released footage of the problems they faced from “inconsiderate” drivers parking on corners and intersections.

The latest footage, which was posted on Tuesday (June 11), shows a fire engine struggling to navigate the bend from Buxton Street onto Mere Road. Their view of the junction is blocked by several vehicles.

Matters are made worse by another vehicle parked on the other side of the junction, making the wide turn for the fire engine a tight squeeze. The East Fire Station hit the parking lot with problems.

He said: “Despite our best efforts at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, fire engines from East Station are still challenged daily to negotiate the city’s streets with sometimes ‘abandoned’ cars on corners, footpaths and junctions. Fire trucks, garbage trucks, buses and all larger vehicles need room at corners and intersections to turn.”

It’s not the first time East Fire Station has hit out at problem parking in Leicester. They have previously highlighted problems in Melton Road and other areas of east Leicester where emergency vehicle access has been restricted.

Eastern Fire Station has asked motorists to think before they park. They said: “Don’t be the careless driver who slows down responding emergency vehicles. You may one day be the one who needs help and fasts.”
