Ramara fire accident leaves one person in life-threatening condition

Two-vehicle crash on Highway 12 forces long road closure after occupants trapped in crash

A “serious” two-vehicle crash left the occupants trapped inside their burning vehicle Tuesday night, police said.

The collision occurred on highway 12, near Concession Road 11, in the municipality of Ramara.

“Initial information was that two vehicles collided, one was in the ditch on fire (while) the other vehicle was still on the roadway with the occupants trapped inside,” an Orillia OPP news release said.

“With the assistance of the Rama Police Service, Simcoe County Paramedics and the Ramara Fire Department, everyone was able to extricate the occupants from the vehicle,” the news release said.

Two people were taken to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, and one occupant was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma center with “life-threatening” injuries.

The Central Region Traffic Incident Control Unit went to the scene to continue investigations. The highway was closed for several hours for the investigation, but has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed or has footage of the collision and has not spoken to police is asked to contact the Orillia OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
