6 were rushed to hospital after the fire destroyed the entire floor of the Ealing house

A glass object that intensified the sun’s rays caused a fire that left six people dead in a west London hospital, the London Fire Brigade said. The victims, including three children, all suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by ambulance after the first floor of the two-storey house on Elderberry Road in Ealing was completely destroyed on Tuesday night (June 11).

On Wednesday (June 12), the Brigade said part of the ground floor was also damaged by flames, as it revealed the fire was accidentally started by sunlight reflecting off a glass object in the room. In light of the unusual incident, the LFB issued a warning about the dangers of fires caused by reflected sunlight.

“These kinds of fires are not as rare as you might think. They can happen all year round, but as we head into summer and the sun gets stronger, it’s really important to keep reflective items like mirrors, crystals and glass ornaments out of direct sunlight,” the wearer added by word of mouth.

The brigade was called at around 7pm and the fire was brought under control by 8.25pm. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Chiswick, Heston, Park Royal and Hammersmith fire stations attended the scene.
