Watch dramatic scenes of armed police as a Bradford street was turned into a film set for the BBC crime drama

A dramatic scene unfolded in the heart of Bradford as filmmakers gathered to film a quick sequence for a BBC crime thriller.

A street in Little Germany was closed to allow the cast and crew of the drama Virdee to film a scene in which what appeared to be armed police make a dramatic arrest. The new six-part series is set and filmed in Bradford. Little Germany is a historic enclave on the edge of the city center and known for its magnificent listed buildings, which were built by the wealthy European wool traders who settled in the city in the 19th century.

Passers-by on Burnett Street watched as the actors walked through their sets on Wednesday this week. Police vehicles and actors in armor and camouflage-style clothing added to the drama.

The new crime thriller is set in Bradford and is based on the much-loved novels by AA Dhand. Dhand grew up in Bradford and trained as a pharmacist before turning to writing.

Drama in Little Germany as scenes are filmed for BBC crime thriller Virdee

Filming is underway in Bradford for the new six-part series, which is being adapted for the screen. Staz Nair will lead the cast as Detective Harry Virdee, with Aysha Kala as Saima Virdee, Harry’s wife. Nina Singh will play Tara Virdee, Harry’s niece and a keen crime reporter, with Vikash Bhai playing Harry’s brother-in-law Riaz Hyatt.


Virdee follows Detective Harry Virdee, a policeman disowned by his Sikh family for marrying Saima, who is Muslim. Harry’s personal life in chaos, but he must hunt down a serial killer targeting the Asian community.

Hollywood great Hans Zimmer will compose the theme for Virdee. The award-winning composer is famous for his work on Interstellar and The Dark Knight, among other films.
