List of roads Knowsley Council plans to make £30m better

Knowsley Council has unveiled ambitious plans to improve the borough’s road network and plans to invest almost £30 million in maintenance and repairs.

Cabinet met at Huyton Municipal Buildings to approve a regeneration and economic development report which outlined the Highways and Transport Capital Program for the next two financial years. The council also confirmed the award of a contract to Tarmac Trading Limited to maintain and improve the borough’s highway network and a separate agreement with Aecom to carry out highway design.

The combined value of the contracts is estimated to be approximately £10 million per annum and will run from 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2032, with the option to extend the contracts for a further three years to 31 January 2035.

Last year, Knowsley Council approved plans to enter into a grant funding agreement with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to secure a total of £29.19m of funding over five years.

Funding allocations for the Capital Program have been developed under the Combined Authority’s Transport Plan and will go towards a range of projects, including an allocation of £330,000 for the Kirkby Rail Footbridge and £250,000 for Waterpark Drive in the Stockbridge district of Knowsley.

In addition, when the Government decided to cancel the HS2 programme, the Department for Transport announced that Liverpool City Region would receive £2.864m of which £0.622m would be set aside for Knowsley. The council has now confirmed that this additional funding has been included in the proposed capital program for 2024/25 and 2025/26 and will be used to undertake resurfacing works on Baker’s Green Road, Huyton Hey Road and Lordens Road.
