McKenna ‘a big fan’ of Leeds United targets Rodon

Kieran McKenna is the Ipswich town boss “a big fan” on recent Leeds United loan star Joe Rodon, reporter Alistair Gold said.

Ipswich Town are heading for the Premier League after pipping Leeds United to automatic promotion.

Double promotions have seen the Tractor Boys climb from League One to the top flight in back-to-back seasons, so a big summer now lies ahead for Kieran McKenna and co.

Signings are a must and with the transfer window opening on Friday, Town will be hoping they can do business early. A host of players have been linked and it looks like they could give Leeds United another shot after beating them to 2nd place.

Speaking on Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham (quoted via LeedsAllOver ), reporter Alistair Gold said Ipswich Town boss McKenna is “a big fan” of Spurs center back Joe Rodon.

Leeds have been heavily linked with a permanent move for their recent loan star as the north Londoners look to sell, but a move to Portman Road could be an option for Rodon. Gold said:

“Joe Rodon will leave this summer, we are waiting to see where he goes. I’m intrigued to see if he ends up at someone like Ipswich because I know Kieran McKenna is a big fan of his.

“I wonder if that will be an option for him.”

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

In the hands of Rodon?

Rodon is still under contract with Spurs for another two years, so any interested club will have to pay a fee to end his spell in north London.

However, as the club look to sell, the 26-year-old could decide his next destination if several parties are able to match the asking price.

Ipswich Town could be a great option, giving Rodon another chance in the Premier League. It is a level he will be determined to prove as he has played in the Championship but has struggled for opportunities with Spurs.

Leeds United, meanwhile, will be hoping the defender’s fruitful loan spell will help their bid to bring him back. Rodon are firm favorites at Elland Road, but with no top-flight football on offer and some financial concerns, perhaps a deal will be beyond them.

Is the Premier League waiting?

You have to think Ipswich Town will have the upper hand if they chase Rodon with Premier League football. They are in a stronger financial position than Leeds United and, having already shown what he can do in the second tier, a return to that level might not be the most appealing.

That said, if anyone can tempt the former Swansea City man back to the Championship, it could be the Whites.

Rodon has established himself as a popular figure at the club and has been key behind Daniel Farke, so if they have the finances to match Ipswich’s offer, it will give the defender a decision to make.

As Ipswich Town prepare for Premier League football, Rodon could be an ideal signing. He looks primed and ready to hit the ground running and with McKenna a strong admirer, it now remains to be seen if they make a move.
