Sheffield Wednesday should consider the smart reunion with Adam Reach

Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship survival means they can start building their squad for the second tier again, and former Owl Adam Reach would be an excellent choice.

Sheffield Wednesday secured safety on the final day of the season with a 2-0 win away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

After spending most of the season in the relegation zone, the Owls ended up finishing 20th in the table and another Championship campaign now awaits.

As with all sides, there is bound to be a reshuffle in terms of personnel ahead of the new season. Players come and go, although in Wednesday’s case, it could benefit from one player in particular returning.

That player is Adam Reach, who could be available for nothing this summer.

A smart signing

Reach left the Owls after a five-year spell in 2021 to join West Brom, although, having made just 17 appearances this campaign, his contract with the Baggies is due to expire this summer. The 31-year-old is set to become a free agent and Danny Rohl could do a lot worse than bring him back to Hillsborough.

It’s safe to say Reach enjoyed the best form of his career with Wednesday. Over 230 appearances, the former Middlesbrough man scored 24 goals and registered 34 assists.

Instead, he hit the back of the net just twice and provided four assists in 76 appearances for West Brom.

If Marvin Johnson leaves when his deal is up, the Owls will be left with just one option on the left side of midfield in Djeidi Gassama.

The France U20 international has shown promise since joining from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, featuring 37 times in all competitions and registering four goals along with three assists. However, depth is certainly needed and Reach would provide the quality needed to challenge Gassama for a spot.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Even then, Reach would also offer his services at center back and left back. That versatility combined with his experience could be of great use to Sheffield Wednesday.

It is not known whether or not supporters would like to see their former star return, although Rohl could find a tune in the West Brom man and is sure to be a player on the radar of a few sides at this level.
