Official: Wigan Athletic sign Dion Rankine from Chelsea

Chelsea’s talented young striker Dion Rankine has officially left Stamford Bridge, signing a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic. The move sees Rankine join Shaun Maloney’s squad, becoming the third signing of the summer after Michael Olakigbe and Calvin Ramsay.

Rankine, who began his journey with Cambridge United, joined Chelsea at the tender age of 14. Known for his technical prowess and attacking flair, he quickly made his mark in the youth ranks.

Last season, he took a significant step in his development by going on loan to Exeter City in League One. There, he shone brightly under former Latics player and manager Gary Caldwell, making 36 appearances and scoring his first senior goal against Reading.

As Rankine moves to Wigan, he brings with him a reputation for speed, guile and a strong work ethic both on and off the ball. Commenting on his transfer, Rankine expressed his excitement and willingness to contribute to his new team.

“I’m so excited to be here.

“It’s been in the works for a while so I’m really excited to be here and seal the deal – I can’t wait to get out there in front of the fans now.

“It’s the right step for my career. I feel like I have a really good opportunity to progress and develop and I just want to play the best football I can here.”
