Emirates customers are ‘furious’ at the way the airline chooses its top passengers

Emirates has come under fire for the way it chooses its “principal passengers” when families and couples fly the airline. Emirates, which flies out of Birmingham Airport, has left passengers and tourists fuming over the divisive politics.

Taking to Reddit, one passenger ranted: “Emirates changed the lead passenger from me to my husband. I recently booked a flight to Malaysia using Emirates. While booking the vacation, I considered myself the lead passenger. (Just to clarify, I’m female)

“I got documents that all start with ‘Dear Mr. Your Name’ and when I went to ‘Manage my booking’ it had him as the main passenger. I looked at connecting flights on other airlines and of course the husband is the lead passenger there too.

“Is this normal practice for Emirates? Does that automatically make the man the primary passenger?” In response, a passenger said: “Yes, me and my girlfriend flew to China and Emirates always changes to male first.”

Another said: “Yes, it’s equally annoying and a hilarious reflection of the action with that side of the world. All you can do is roll your eyes and move on. In any case, remember to stay quietly behind your husband at all times, haha ;-)

“Happy travels.” Another commented: “Family of 4. In 50% of cases, the youngest child (6) is the main passenger. The remaining 50% is a wash between my wife, eldest and myself. Don’t look too hard at it, no idea how that works.”

“I flew with Emirates last year and they made my 11-year-old daughter the lead passenger. Based on that, I think their systems are just messed up and I wouldn’t read too much into them,” commented another.
