Croydon thug pulled hood and kicked elderly man ‘for fun’ in town center attack

A Croydon man who “senselessly” attacked an elderly man who was fighting outside a shop “for his own amusement” has been jailed for three years. Scott McAndrew, 33, of London Road, was in Redhill town center in Surrey when he saw the 80-year-old man.

CCTV shows him lifting the hood of his jacket to avoid being recognized before approaching the victim from behind and punching him with such force that he hit the concrete face down, the site reported surrey Surrey Live.

McAndrew, from Croydon, quickly left the scene, leaving other horrified shoppers to call for help. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where it was found that he had broken ribs as a result of the attack.

Despite his attempts to hide his face, McAndrew was identified after Surrey Police appealed for the public’s help in identifying him. Police made six people come forward and McAndrew was arrested after he surrendered. He was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court yesterday (May 9) after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Detective Sergeant Lee Marks said: “Having seen the CCTV this was a completely senseless attack. Even in the interview, McAndrew gave no reason why he chose to take this person who was clearly much weaker physically than he was. If he did it for his own amusement, I hope he finds going to jail less amusing.”
